SEA LIFE CENTRE
FINLAND, ETELÄ-SUOMEN LÄÄNI

SEA LIFE OPENS IN FINLAND

Sea Life Centre Val d'Europe's success has been a boon to Merlin Entertainment Ltd., the British company behind the concept. Its fourteenth park will open its doors in June 2002 in Finland, the eighth country on the continent to have one of these parks devoted to "marine life". The allusion to the French Sea Life is no coincidence as the two parks have a number of points in common. Similar to Sea Life Centre Val d'Europe that is located on the outskirts of Paris and not very far from a large theme park (Disneyland-Paris), the Finnish Sea Life is located in Helsinki in the heart of the largest amusement park in the country, Linnanmaki Amusement Park. Lasten Päivän Säätiö, a foundation for children, is the owner of this park that includes about thirty attractions. The construction of Sea Life Finland at a cost of five million pounds will be split 50/50 with Merlin.

AQUARIUM

Again, similar to what they did in France, they have decided to devote a part of their programming to the environment in which the park finds itself. Fauna from the glacial depths of the Baltic Sea will replace the biodiversity of the Seine River. Despite the difference in content, the idea behind it remains the same: to instruct and to present marine life as up-close as possible in order to afford viewers new perspectives. In this spirit, the main attraction will be a giant ocean aquarium topped with a bridge and equipped with an underwater tunnel. There you will discover the multi-coloured fauna of the tropical seas, from shrimp to shark, not forgetting rays, starfish and sea horses.
