GRAND PARC MEDIEVAL
FRANCE, LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON

THE MIDDLE AGES IN THE NOT SO DISTANT FUTURE

A theme park devoted to the Middle Ages is the project Sopreparc hopes to carry out. It would be situated between Lézignan-Corbières and Carcassonne in the Aude region. At this point, the project is at an infant stage and the feasibility study is yet to be completed. The only thing that is certain right now is the ambitiousness of the plans: an investment budget of some 100 million euros, 500 to 600 new employees at the opening of the park, an expected 800,000 visitors at first, with an estimated expansion of 2.5 million annual visitors and 1200 jobs by 2012. The idea is to capture vacationers on their way to Spain. The choice of the Middle Ages for the theme was due to the fact that this period is "part of a common history for all Europeans, and the dream of all Americans," according to Eric Pécharde who first came up with the idea. The opening is preliminarily set for 2006-2007. We'll be keeping you informed.
